The Calgary Airport Authority Announces Completion of Request for Proposal Process for On-Demand Taxi Service at Calgary International Airport

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 2, 2010) - This afternoon, The Calgary Airport Authority and Associated Cab (Alta.) Ltd. signed a six-year contract to provide on-demand taxi services at Calgary International Airport (YYC). The Authority thoroughly reviewed multiple Request for Proposal (RFP) submissions and awarded the taxi contract to Associated Cab, effective June 7, 2010.

This on-demand service contract limits taxis waiting in the taxi holding area at the airport to Associated Cab drivers, however, drivers from other taxi companies continue to be permitted to drop off customers and pick-up pre-arranged passengers at Calgary International Airport.

Associated Cab, who also provides sedan services at YYC, is committed to maintaining a high level of customer service, while offering the required number of taxis to serve the airport. Travellers can be assured that customer service will continue to be a priority for the Authority and Associated Cab, while offering a constant, reliable service to travellers arriving and departing YYC.

Associated Cab, founded in 1978, offers a high level of service and some of the most experienced drivers in the industry. Well known for its modern fleet, clean white cabs and uniformed drivers, the company has been the recipient of the Consumers Choice Award consecutively from 2003 through 2010. Associated is also a leader in accessible taxi services and is committed to sustainability, being one of the first taxi companies to introduce hybrid vehicles into its fleet.

Although on demand taxi trips at YYC make up less than 10 per cent of the total number of taxi trips in the city of Calgary, the Authority is confident in Associated Cab's ability to be a good partner in providing a high level of customer service, while growing its own business as the airport continues to grow in support of the city, region and province.
