MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - May 31, 2010) - Nearly 35 students from the École Secondaire Leblanc, in Laval, will get the chance to be Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) for a day.
Forensic Technology, a Montreal-based company, is using its expertise in forensic ballistics to help Secondary 5 science students learn more about how forensic investigators solve crimes and at the same time, to promote the benefits of staying in school.
Because the drop-out rate is a province-wide problem, every year Forensic Technology partners with an "at risk" school in the community to stage Expert d'un jour. The event consists of a fictional homicide investigation in which students become the CSIs tasked with solving the case. Students have the opportunity to understand and analyze evidence, interview persons of interest, and, of course, solve the fictitious murder.

Working in tandem with Vice-Principal Florent Lavoie, and managed entirely by employee volunteers, Expert d'un jour takes place in an atmosphere of learning, collaboration, team building, and spirited competition. For their crime-solving abilities and for their understanding and application of the theory they learn, the members of the winning team are awarded textbook scholarships to be applied toward their CEGEP studies.
Each week, TV dramas—such as "CSI"—depict the many tools and processes available to CSIs and police to help bring criminals to justice. In fact, Forensic Technology's products are regularly featured on "CSI", helping the TV CSIs and detectives link crimes, guns, and suspects.
