Broward County Crime Commission to Honor Brian Cavanagh as Prosecutor of the Year in Broward County; Police Officers to Also Be Honored

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL--(Marketwire - October 22, 2008) - The Broward County Crime Commission today announced a very special evening gala on Thursday, October 23rd, 2008, where the criminal justice system, as a whole, will be honored. Several hundred prominent people will gather on Thursday evening to pay tribute to the Criminal Justice system in Broward County.

This year's recipient of Broward County Prosecutor of the Year is Brian Cavanagh, Assistant State Attorney in Charge of the Homicide Trial Unit.

Along with this well-deserved award to Mr. Cavanagh, the Crime Commission will also pay homage to the fallen law enforcement personnel who have died in the line of duty over the past two years. Broward Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Al Lamberti will conduct this tribute to our fallen heroes.

Broward Bar Association President Christopher "Chris" Neilson and Florida Statewide Prosecutor William Shepherd will also be keynote speakers, as will Broward State Attorney Michael Satz.

Finally, 109 law enforcement personnel, from every police agency in Broward County, will be honored for their dual commitment and service to their country and the local area in which they serve. These men and women have simultaneously served in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, while also being full-time police officers.

"This will be both an exciting and rewarding evening. We have been waiting for quite some time to put this event together, and it is finally here. This is a tribute that has never been done collectively, and it is well overdue. Enough cannot be done for the men and women that put their life and time on the line, day in and day out, so that we, as citizens, can live in safety. In many instances they work undermanned and under budget, and still maintain the professionalism to keep our streets safe from crime," said James DePelisi, President of the Broward County Crime Commission. "My hat goes off to them," said DePelisi.

Tickets are $75.00 per person, and checks should be mailed to:
