Boston Software Systems Customers and Partners Make U.S. News & World Report and Hospitals & Health Networks 2008 Honor Rolls
Mayo Health Systems, Cleveland Clinic, Memorial Healthcare Among Those Listed Using Boston WorkStation to Enable Workflow Automation
SHERBORN, MA--(Marketwire - September 15, 2008) - Boston Software Systems™, the leader in workflow automation technology to the healthcare market, announced today that
58 percent of the hospitals on the U.S. News & World Report America's Best
Hospitals Honor Roll and 39 percent of those on the Hospitals & Health
Networks magazine 2008 Most Wired list are direct customers or partner
hospitals which are using Boston WorkStation™ workflow automation and
integration technology. These surveys focus on how the nation's hospitals
use information technologies for safety and quality, customer service,
public health and safety, business processes and workforce issues.
"Leading hospitals nationwide, like Riverside Health System, Greenwich
Hospital, Citizens Memorial Healthcare, Park Nicolett Health Services, and
UPMC are applying Boston WorkStation in innovative ways to accomplish a
variety of critical workflow automation and integration tasks. They realize
that the operational aspects of running a hospital feed directly into
patient safety, quality care and the revenue cycle," said Sara McNeil,
president of Boston Software Systems. "Our customers are proud of the
results they are seeing with Boston WorkStation. Today's healthcare
organizations must invest wisely in technology, and the investment is
paying off quickly. By helping healthcare organizations to reinvent their
existing processes, Boston WorkStation saves hospitals weeks of work and
thousands of dollars, enabling them to focus on their core competencies."
In the event of a system failure, a hospital must be able to fully function
as it still needs to continue to care for its patients. Using Boston
WorkStation, Citizens Memorial Healthcare now has downtime reports for
short-term or long-term outages that help transition records from
electronic to paper, providing instant access to pertinent patient
information.
"In addition to improving workflow of manual tasks, Boston WorkStation's
scripting technology has allowed us to reallocate resources to more
patient-critical areas," said Brian Thiel, manager of managed care at
Greenwich Hospital. "A keen eye on workflow is definitely helping the
hospital."
Riverside Health System needed an automated way to log patients out of its
emergency department (ED) in order to provide fast, accurate information to
clinics. "Using Boston WorkStation against our Siemens Invision system, we
have reduced the time it takes to log these patients out from eight to less
than one hour. The script took us only three hours to write. The result is
not only a more efficient registration process in the ED, but also a free
full-time employee to use in a more substantial capacity," said Jim Foss,
director of IS physician services at Riverside Health System.
Using Boston WorkStation, important clinical information captured in the ED
flows easily throughout a patient's continuum of care. Therefore,
physicians can now receive updated patient information on a daily basis
from the ED. This, in turn, improves the safety and quality of care for
patients, as well as provides medical staff immediate access to critical
patient information.
About the U.S. News & World Report America's Best Hospitals
In its 19th year, U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Hospitals is an
assessment of the nation's hospitals based on an index made up of three
equal parts related to quality of care: reputation, mortality, and various
factors such as procedure volume and nursing care. These rankings appeared
in the July 10 issue of U.S. News & World Report. Of 5,453 U.S. hospitals,
only 170 have ranked specialties and only hospitals earning high marks in
six or more of 16 select specialties made the "Honor Roll" of America's
best hospitals. Overall, only 19 hospitals made the "Honor Roll," a list
reserved for medical centers with very high rankings in at least six
specialties.
