Media Advisory: Auto Club, CHP and San Diego Police Dept. Join to Launch Window VIN Etching Program
SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - September 22, 2009) -
WHAT: The Automobile Club of Southern California and members of the San
Diego Police Dept. and CHP will host a window VIN etching event
for car owners.
As part of the event, motorists will have the unique Vehicle
Identification Number etched onto their car or truck windows.
The event also will include distribution of auto theft prevention
materials to motorists, and law enforcement reps will offer auto
theft prevention tips.
WHY: The number of vehicle thefts, per capita, in the San Diego
Metropolitan Statistical Area -- which includes all of San Diego
County -- ranks it #4 in the nation by the National Insurance
Crime Bureau. Window VIN etched vehicles are a car thief's
nightmare since they steal vehicles to sell off their parts.
Etched windows make the stolen car less profitable.
WHEN: Interview availability beginning at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept.
24; Event starts at 10 a.m. and will continue until 3 p.m.
WHERE: Auto Club Office, 2440 Hotel Circle North; 619-233-1000
WHO: Jill Clark, Auto Club San Diego Branch Office Manager
Roy Collura, Auto Club San Diego Insurance Business Manager
Capt. Lisa Wrobel, San Diego CHP; Det. John Smith, SDPD
Larry Postler, Auto Club San Diego Claims Manager
VISUALS: Car owners with the windows of their vehicles getting window VIN
etched in the parking lot. On-camera interviews with Auto Club
and law enforcement reps about vehicle theft prevention.
