AppTek Announces Release of Chinese Language for Its Hybrid Machine Translation System

AppTek's Hybrid Machine Translation: Full Integration of Statistical and Rule-Based Methodologies Now Offers Chinese Text Translation

MCLEAN, VA--(Marketwire - July 27, 2010) -  AppTek, a leader in human language technology (HLT), announced the release of Chinese for its hybrid machine translation (HMT) system. This is part of AppTek's migration of its supported languages to its patent-pending Hybrid Machine Translation platform while continuing to introduce more new languages throughout the year. AppTek's hybrid machine translation is a full integration of statistical and rule-based methodologies, and has been ranked first for three consecutive years in evaluation of machine translation (MT) systems tested by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

AppTek's HMT solution is a true breakthrough in machine translation and customers will see a significant improvement in accuracy, informativeness, and fluency. The HMT solution provides the same capabilities as other rule-based or statistical MT systems in one robust platform that can run on a server or a standalone laptop. The full suite of linguistic tools includes proper-noun recognition, morphological analysis, and large annotated lexicons (e.g., military, political, chemical, business, medical). Users can also add their own dictionaries, edit an existing one, and adapt the system using their own translation memory.

"AppTek is the only human language technology provider to successfully capture the full capabilities of the machine translation market in one product," said Michael Veronis, Head of Business Development of AppTek. "The release of Chinese for our Hybrid Machine Translation system is unique in the way that its performance is as good as our other languages, rendering good BLEU scores, which allows us to provide optimal features of both statistical and rule-based approaches in the process of automated translation of large volumes of data and provide greater information fidelity in this language."
