In September, the results from the ATL/TV1102 Phase IIa clinical trial in patients with MS were presented at the World Congress on Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis in Montreal, Canada by the Principal Investigator for the trial, Volker Limmroth, M.D., Ph.D., Chairman of the Department of Neurology, Cologne City Hospitals, Germany.
In the study, it was demonstrated that ATL/TV1102, a second-generation antisense drug designed to specifically inhibit the production of VLA-4 (a clinically validated target in MS), significantly reduced the number of new active lesions in patients with Relapsing Remitting MS taking ATL/TV1102 for 8 weeks. The development of ATL/TV1102 as an MS treatment continues with ANP's licensing partner Teva.
Earlier this month, the Company reported positive results from its collaborative preclinical research study on the therapeutic potential of ATL1101 in prostate cancer. ATL1101 is a second-generation antisense inhibitor of the insulin-like growth factor-I receptor (IGF-IR), which has previously shown potent activity in laboratory studies, including in human cancer cells.
The key findings from the research study were that ATL1101 injections significantly suppressed the growth of the human prostate tumors and slowed down their transition to the most dangerous form of prostate cancer, castration-resistant prostate cancer. These results were presented at New York Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting of the Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Society, Harvard Conference Center in Boston.
