Abilities Expo Chicagoland Opens Thursday in Schaumburg, IL
Networking Opportunities, Products for People With Disabilities, Free Workshops and Wheelchair Sporting Events Featuring Chicago 2016 Paralympians
SCHAUMBURG, IL--(Marketwire - June 22, 2009) - Excitement is building for this week's Abilities Expo Chicagoland that will bring the disability marketplace together for three days to see new products, learn about advances in technology and provide free workshops for consumers. The Expo and Conference will be held Thursday, June 25 through Saturday, June 27 at the Schaumburg Convention Center.
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
-- FASHION SHOW: Chloe Magazine's Dare to Change the World Fashion
Showcase, featuring the latest custom made fashion trends for men and
women from Swedish Designer David Lega, British Designer Louisa
Summerfield as well as USA Jeans and AG Apparel. The Fashion Show
will be held twice each day of the Expo.
-- SPORTING EVENTS WITH PARALYMPIANS: Adaptive (wheelchair) sporting
events will take place during the three day event. Several
Paralympians will be promoting Chicago 2016 and conducting
demonstrations including David Lega, Swedish Table Tennis Champion;
Patrick Byrne 2002 Paralympic Sled Hockey Gold Medalist; Ella Chafee
1996 Paralympian Fencing; Sam Williams 2008 Paralympian Boccia; and
Nick Fonner 2005 Team USA Wheelchair Rugby.
-- CONSUMER WORKSHOPS: Abilities Expo will offer free workshops on such
topics as The Accessible Livable Home, Travel Made Easy for People
with Disabilities, New Horizons for Assistance Dogs, Paralysis
Research, Making the Computer Easier to Use, and more.
-- Transforming Disability: A Mind Body Approach: Yoga Instructor
Matthew Sanford will present his real-life story that explores the
mind-body nature of disability, and the impact that a more integrated
approach can have on recovery, outcomes, and quality of life.

-- KIDS DAY: Saturday, June 27th is "KIDS DAY" offering activities for
children of all ages including juggling by Gary Karp, the chance to
meet Miss Wheelchair America, play with LokoTek children's toys and
listen to music from JiggleJam Music, plus sports demonstrations
geared for the kids.
