Monitor Breakfast Series to Host Leading Campaign Representatives at Democratic National Convention

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - August 25, 2008) - The Christian Science Monitor today announces that it will hold daily versions of its signature Monitor Breakfast series at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colo. this week. Each event will feature representatives from either the Obama or McCain campaigns, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

The DNC Monitor Breakfast series kicked off Saturday, August 23 with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D, California). Video and a corresponding article on the event can be found at: http://features.csmonitor.com/monitorbreakfast/

Articles and corresponding video excerpts of each high-profile Monitor Breakfast guest will appear daily on the Monitor Breakfast Web site. Comprehensive campaign '08 coverage, including videos from the Monitor Breakfast series, can be found at: http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/

Monitor Breakfasts were launched in 1966 by longtime Washington journalist Godfrey "Budge" Sperling and for 42 years have been a regular staple in the Washington political events scene. Guests at the events have included four US presidents, five vice presidents, as well as countless cabinet officers and congressional leaders. Columnists and reporters for roughly 35 newspapers, news magazines, broadcast networks and political blogs regularly attend the breakfasts which are limited to an invited audience. The breakfasts are moderated by Monitor Washington Bureau Chief David Cook.

The breakfasts encourage in-depth, civilized conversation between reporters and newsmakers and are directly tied to the Monitor's founding mission of unselfish service through journalism. Away from the constant pressure of staying "on message" the civil tone of the breakfasts often produce unexpected bouts of candor from its guests.
