STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 4, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- The agreement between Elekta (SSE:EKTAB) and Radian, joint center for Radiation Oncology Arnhem-Nijmegen, comprises a significant order valued at approximately SEK 80 million and an option for future systems estimated to be worth SEK 100 million.
The initial order comprises Precise Treatment Systems, Portal Imaging, PreciseSIM? simulators, CT Simulators, Treatment Planning, Information System and Scientific cooperation projects. The optional order includes more Precise Treatment Systems with Portal Imaging and PreciseSIM? simulators for delivery in 3 years time. Because of the fast growing demand for the delivery of radiotherapy services in The Netherlands, it is anticipated that a substantial portion of the optional order will be delivered earlier than the expected 3 years.
Beside the order for radiotherapy equipment and the scientific cooperation, Elekta and Radian have reached a service agreement for maintenance of all systems.
The ability to offer a total solution, strong support services, and last but not least, a scientific cooperation, were cited as a key reason for the selection of Elekta as the preferred vendor.
The Precise Treatment Systems come complete with integrated MLC, portal imaging and Desktop control, and patient management system. Desktop provides a mix of advanced clinical techniques such as IMRT with the ability to make routine work exceptionally fast and easy.
In addition Desktop provides the foundation for Elekta's PreciseNET program. Using modern connectivity protocols, radiotherapy functions are integrated within a unified system. This open connectivity enabled Elekta to deliver a complete solution that met the demanding requirements of the Radian group by fully integrating systems from various affiliate suppliers, such as MDS Nordion, Nexus and Marconi Medical Systems.
Radian is a collaboration between Arnhem Radiotherapy Institute and the Department of Radiotherapy of the University Medical Center St Radboud Nijmegen, for the delivery of radiotherapy services and includes clinical expertise, physics support as well as joint purchasing. When completed, the extensive program will increase the number of Linear Accelerators from the present six to a complement of ten. Radian has the ambition to expand and grow to a national and international top reference -- and top clinical center for Radiotherapy.
