IT Frontier Signs OEM Contract With Alfresco Software, Leading Open Source ECM Company

TOKYO--(Marketwire - June 23, 2008) - IT Frontier Corporation (a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation) announced today an OEM agreement with UK-based Alfresco Software, the leader in open source enterprise content management (ECM).

With the enforcement of Japanese Sarbanes-Oxley (JSOX) and other information protection laws, demands for stronger company-wide compliance and secure document management systems have increased. Up until now, companies, and in most cases individual departments, have used either the traditional document management or simple groupware/collaboration applications to manage information and documents. With legislation demanding stricter process controls and accountability, companies need a centralized system that can effectively process a large amount of documents across the entire organization while applying strict workflow and security controls. In the past, proprietary enterprise content management systems have been used, but they are extremely costly and complex.

To help bridge the gap between document management and compliance regulations, IT Frontier has partnered with Alfresco Software, whose low-cost, feature-packed open source ECM software has received wide acclaim in America and Europe. As a result of the partnership, IT Frontier will be able to offer its Japanese customers a cost effective, scaleable, standards-based content and document management system.

Alfresco is an open source alternative solution to costly and complicated proprietary ECM. It offers workflow, collaboration, knowledge management, and web content management. Also, Alfresco utilizes Web 2.0 and Social Computing technology concepts via a Web API facilitating various system and external data integration (Mash Up), company portals, and RIA systems. This makes it extremely effective for next-generation business systems and SOA. Alfresco ECM software has been downloaded over a million times and has in excess of 450 customers in both the public and private sector, including the following: the French Ministry of Justice, NASA, education centers such as Harvard University and MIT, the American Stock Exchange, and the LA Times.

Regarding the partnership, Alfresco Software's CEO and co-founder John Powell commented: "We are delighted to be working with IT Frontier, one of the largest IT companies in Japan, to embed Alfresco's open source content management functionality into their innovative solution. IT Frontier had rigorous requirements for secure, reliable content management and we are pleased that in selecting Alfresco they endorse our enterprise heritage and global momentum, which is accelerating in the Japanese market."

IT Frontier will offer ECM solutions with Japanese market oriented features and user interfaces based on Alfresco. In addition, IT Frontier is looking to expand its services into Software as a Service (SaaS). By using Alfresco as a base for this model, a feature-rich ECM service can be quickly submitted to customers and integrated into their business.
