Probaris Shows End-to-End, FIPS 201 Smart Card Issuance at RSA Conference

Probaris ID(TM) Demonstrated as Integral Part of Managed Service Offering That Makes Security Convergence an Immediate Option for Enterprise Identity Access Management and Control

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - April 9, 2008) - Probaris, Inc. has equipped a mobile credential issuance facility with its Probaris ID™ suite of identity products for demonstrations during the RSA Conference this week, from 12:30 to 2:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If you would like to setup a demonstration, please contact Megan McHugh at 215.238.0510 x237. Probaris will be demonstrating the registration, enrollment and issuance of FIPS 201 certified smart cards. The smart cards contain technologies that allow a wide range of enterprise security applications including logical, physical and mobile device security applications.

The multi-use credential incorporates several digital certificates that provide the capability for logical access control applications including smart card log-on, single-sign on, digitally signed email and documents, encryption and restricted file and web site access. The demonstration builds on the successful issuance of credentials at a recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) demonstration to show the use of the credentials in an emergency response scenario.

Charles Durkin, Chief Operating Officer of Probaris, states, "This demonstration illustrates the power of FIPS 201 to address the multiple uses of smart cards across the enterprise. The return on investment from FIPS 201 credential deployment is substantial, and it creates a compelling case for enterprises to include FIPS 201 migration on their corporate security roadmap." The ROI is based on the use of a single smart card for logical and physical security applications, combined with efficient issuance of the credentials.

The RSA conference brings together the world's leading security experts. One of the benefits of an enterprise smart card solution based on the FIPS 201 standard is that it establishes a trust model for identity verification among organizations. The trust model and card standard provide the basis for interoperability and Federated identity management. The security provided by the FIPS 201 standard brings enterprise security to another level using strong authentication based on open asymmetric cryptographic techniques.

"One of the most important contributions of the RSA conference is its emphasis on the need for real security. An organization needs to publish its security technique and then let the world try to break it," according to Sam Garst, VP Engineering at Probaris. "It's not acceptable for large scale credential programs to be based on proprietary techniques, whether for logical or physical security. Our demonstration shows how easy it is to get credentials that meet the highest security levels, and do it in concert with the spirit of this event."
