Gentex Three-Mirror System on Hyundai Luxury Model
| Source: Gentex
ZEELAND, MI--(Marketwire - April 8, 2008) - Gentex Corporation (NASDAQ : GNTX ), the leading
supplier of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors to the worldwide automotive
industry, has announced that it is supplying a three-mirror system for the
all-new Hyundai Grandeur luxury sedan. Auto-dimming mirrors darken
automatically to eliminate glare from the headlamps of vehicles approaching
from the rear for improved nighttime driving.
Hyundai Kia is taking the lead in the domestic Korean market by offering
the first of several rear camera display (RCD) mirror programs. An interior
auto-dimming mirror with RCD will be available on the Grandeur models sold
in the Korean domestic market. The Gentex RCD contains an LCD display that
works with a video camera mounted at the rear of the vehicle to provide a
view directly behind the vehicle while backing up. When the vehicle is
shifted into "reverse," a 3.5-inch diagonal LCD display appears
automatically through the auto-dimming mirror's reflective surface. The
display disappears when the vehicle is shifted into any other gear. The
unique capability for the display to appear through the mirror's surface is
made possible by Gentex's proprietary "transflective" coating and lighting
techniques, which result in a bright, high-resolution color image. The
Grandeur also offers exterior auto-dimming mirrors and compass display.
The North American version of the vehicle, called the Azera, will offer an
interior auto-dimming mirror with a universal garage door opener and a
compass display. The compass feature uses Gentex's proprietary Z-Nav®
compass transducer, a highly accurate compass sensor that determines the
vehicle's directional heading.
"Hyundai continues to expand into the luxury car segment and Gentex is
excited to be a part of the car company's growth. The new Grandeur offers
many Gentex features not only on the North American version but on the
Korean line as well," said Enoch Jen, Gentex Senior Vice President.
