Auto Club: Gas Prices Continue Skyward

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - November 16, 2007) - Gas prices marched ever closer toward record-high levels over the past week, rising by a little more than a penny a day in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.379, which is 8.2 cents higher than last week, 36 cents above last month, and 92 cents more than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.404, which is 8.2 cents above last week's price, 34 cents up from last month, and 90 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.482, up 6.1 cents from last week, 32 cents above last month, and 78 cents more than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average price is $3.379, 8.2 cents more than last week, 35 cents above last month, and 91 cents higher than last year.

"We're now into our eleventh straight week of price increases," said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. "When prices have spiked in prior fall seasons, we usually experienced the peak in September or October. High gas prices around the holidays could put a dent in shoppers' and travelers' budgets."
