Sydney Plastic Surgeon Wins "Best Cosmetic Surgery Short Presentation" Award at the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons Annual Conference

Dr Steve Merten Is Recognised for His Significant Influence to the Field of Cosmetic Surgery Through His Recent Presentation, Which Detailed His Technique Used in Breast Implant Revision Surgery

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA--(Marketwired - Jul 29, 2013) - Sydney Plastic Surgeon Dr Steve Merten has been awarded the prestigious "Best Cosmetic Surgery Short Presentation" award at the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) annual conference for his paper "The Capsular 'Hammock' Flap for Breast Implant Ptosis."

The ASAPS annual conference, held from the 3 - 6th July 2013 at the Sheraton Mirage in Port Douglas, Australia is the premier annual conference for cosmetic plastic surgery in Australia.

Dr Steve Merten, a recognised expert in plastic surgery and breast enlargement, presented his novel technique to correct mal-positioned breast implants that have fallen down the chest.

"Breast augmentation is one of the commonest cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in Australia, and is being increasingly performed, but with this we also have seen an increase in breast implant problems and need for revision surgery, particularly with breast enlargement poorly performed by non-specialist surgeons and surgery done overseas," says Dr Merten.

In his presentation, Dr Merten demonstrated his technique to correct breast implants that have moved down the chest. "When this happens, the cosmetic result is very poor. As the implants move down the chest, the implants sit far too low and the nipples appear to rise up; the result is very unnatural and requires breast implant revision surgery to correct."

This technique of utilising a "capsular hammock flap" allows correction of this problem with "high success rates and a very natural and improved outcome," says Dr Merten.

More information on breast implant revision, as well as video animation of this procedure, can be found on Dr Merten's plastic surgery website.
