NKK Switches Celebrates Tony Kanaan's Indy 500 Win

A Partner of KVRT in the IZOD IndyCar(R) Racing Series, NKK Joins Mouser Electronics to Cheer On Champion Driver Kanaan for the Upcoming Firestone 550 Race

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwired - Jun 11, 2013) - NKK Switches, the world's leading designer and manufacturer of innovative electromechanical switches, congratulates Tony Kanaan for a first place finish in the 2013 Indianapolis 500 Race. After 11 previous attempts to secure a win, Kanaan was successful in taking the trophy at the 97th Indy 500 Race held annually at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. NKK is a co-sponsor of the No. 11 KV Racing Technology IndyCar.

"We applaud Tony Kanaan for a thrilling first place finish in an exhilarating race," said Marty Arch, national sales manager, NKK Switches. "NKK is honored to partner with Mouser in supporting high-performance automotive racing with the most technologically advanced components."

Kanaan is a favorite of racing fans who were treated to a spectacular performance at the annual 500-mile race. With speeds averaging 187.433 mph, Kanaan fought for top position from the beginning and throughout the race, pulling ahead to take the lead 15 times. This year's race set a new record for lead changes, doubling the record set last year. After a race record of 68 lead changes, Kanaan drove the #11 IndyCar across the finish line.

NKK offers an impressive line of switches for automotive use. A key characteristic of automotive environments is that prolonged or particularly obtrusive exposure to contaminants is a certainty. These contaminants include dust, dirt and liquids. Automotive environments also often present temperature and vibration concerns as well. As such, IP-rated switches from NKK are an ideal choice for design engineers.

"To Tony Kanaan, we offer our congratulations along with NKK," said Keith Privett, Mouser Vice President of Electromechanical, Power & Test. "NKK is a valued partner in our IndyCar racing program and a strategic supplier partner we depend on as we connect with electronic design engineers and buyers."

Mouser is currently sponsoring an NKK SmartSwitch™ IndyCar Challenge for an innovative solution in designing a Driver Information Center. The winner will receive a prize package that includes two tickets to the IndyCar race in Sonoma, CA on August 25th, airfare and hotel. Tony Kanaan will race in the Firestone 550 at the Texas Motor Speedway on June 8. This is a race Kanaan won in June 2004. In addition he has earned 10 top-10 finishes. A first place finish will make him one of only three drivers to have successive wins in both the Indy 500 and the Firestone 550.
