Media Advisory: Coalition Declares April 9 Equal Pay Day


TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 9, 2013) - The Equal Pay Coalition is declaring April 9 Equal Pay Day and is launching a province-wide campaign to close Ontario's 28 per cent pay gap between men and women.

The Coalition has also called on the province to declare an annual Equal Pay Day, such as President Barack Obama proclaimed in the U.S., and to take measures to close the pay gap.

Several events are scheduled to mark this day, including wearing "red" to mark how far women are "in the red".

April 9 Itinerary:

8 am: Community call to action event at the intersection of King & Bay.

10-11:45 am: Coalition members will be in Legislature for Question Period.

11:45 am: Photo op with MPPs wearing red following Question Period. Queen's Park, outside Legislative Assembly and Room 230.

12 pm: Community call to action event at the intersection of University and College and South on University to Gerrard.

1:30pm: News conference and media briefing session at Queen's Park Media Conference Room: Featuring the release of a report on the pay gap between men and women in Ontario, written by legal expert Mary Cornish, published by Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-Ontario.
