Ilmenau University of Technology and Objectivity Unveil Combined Data Stream Analytics & Sensor Data Processing Technology Leveraging InfiniteGraph at BTW 2013 in Magdeburg, Germany

InfiniteGraph, the Only Real-Time, Distributed Graph Database, Combined With Motion Sensing Technologies Enables New Levels of Analysis for Healthcare, Advertising, Gaming and Business Analytics

MAGDEBURG, GERMANY--(Marketwired - Apr 9, 2013) - Objectivity, Inc. and the Database and Information Systems group of Ilmenau University of Technology unveiled their collaboratively developed solution for a gesture-based traversal of InfiniteGraph, the only massively scalable, real-time distributed graph database, at the BTW 2013 in Magdeburg. The combination of technologies, gesture control and graph databases, represents a breakthrough in the development of interactive applications for processing and visualization of large structured and linked data. The resulting opportunities for interactive analysis of data, opens new perspectives in behavioral advertising, physical therapy, gaming and gesture-based business analytics, modeling and presentation.

In a live demonstration at BTW 2013, the 15th GI-Symposium Database Systems for Business, Technology and Web, the solution was awarded "Best Demo Award." For the demonstration, the user traversed the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) using gestures. Theses gestures are detected using Complex Event Processing in the data stream management system AnduIN, where AnduIN processes data provided by Microsoft's Kinect camera. Gestures are defined in AnduIN with a declarative SQL-like language and can be adapted or replaced at run-time.

"It will be interesting to see, how industry will adapt to innovations in the field of Big Data," said Prof. Dr. Kai-Uwe Sattler of Ilmenau University of Technology. "Our solution will herald a field of gesture-based applications. With a stable, scalable technology like InfiniteGraph we can gain access to critical motion data analysis in an easy, natural, intuitive and visual way."

Motion sensing devices like Microsoft's Kinect offer an alternative to traditional computer input devices like keyboards and mice. Graph databases can naturally interpret gesture control for traversing graphs using defined swiping, pointing or pushing gestures and navigation inside graphs can easily be replaced by intuitive and natural gestures. InfiniteGraph is a reliable, scalable and distributed graph database able to persist and traverse complex relationships. This combination allows for gesture-based analysis in multiple areas including:

  • Advertising
  • Healthcare
  • Business Analytics
  • Gaming

"This is just the beginning of an incredible breakthrough for real-time discovery applications power by InfiniteGraph," said Jay Jarell President and CEO of Objectivity. "With this project we are pushing Big Data to the ends of innovation and really exploring the capabilities of real-time and Graph analytics. It's great to partner with Ilmenau's bright minds to actively showcase the value of Big Data."

About Ilmenau University

The Ilmenau University of Technology is a German public research university located in Ilmenau, Thuringia, Germany. It was founded in 1894, it contains a total of 5 academic departments (faculties) and has about 7,200 undergraduate students. Research and education at Ilmenau University of Technology is focused on engineering with strong links natural sciences and economics. It is the only university in the federal state of Thüringen with the title "Technische Universität". Today's university began life in 1894 as the "Thüringisches Technikum", a private training college. This took on the status of Hochschule für Elektrotechnik (HfE) before becoming the Technische Hochschule (TH) and 1992 being accorded the title of Technische Universität (TU).
