Business Hotels Kuala Lumpur Shows Their Spirit to Serve

Renaissance Renews Commitment to Support World Hunger Campaign

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA--(Marketwire - Jun 19, 2012) - Stepping forward to make a life-changing difference in the lives of children, one of the premier Kuala Lumpur Convention Center hotels has renewed its commitment to support the school meals activities of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) through its "Spirit to Serve the Hungry" campaign.

As a program participant, this KLCC hotel will collect donations from hotel guests to help the WFP in its efforts to provide nutritious school meals to primary school students in the region. Recognizing the value of school meals as a lasting investment in the future of area children, the Renaissance proudly encourages students to attend and stay in school and wants to help them make the most of their time in the classroom by nurturing a healthy learning environment.

"We are deeply committed to the campaign that allows us to make a difference and invest in the future of our children," said Mr. Robert Frager, General Manager of Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel and Chairman of the Marriott & Renaissance Malaysia Business Council. "By providing school meals through WFP, we aim to break the vicious cycle of poverty and help to develop the physical and intellectual opportunities of these children."

The Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel, one of the luxury hotels near Petronas Twin Towers, joins with other Renaissance and Marriott hotels in the area as part of the "Spirit to Serve Our Communities" programme, Marriott's global corporate social responsibility initiative.

"WFP is grateful for the continued commitment of Marriott & Renaissance Malaysia Business Council and their guests to making a difference in the lives of Asian schoolchildren," said Ms. Monica Marshall, Deputy Director and Head of Global Private Partnerships for WFP. "It is unacceptable that almost 600 million people in Asia are undernourished. The Spirit to Serve the Hungry campaign allows these hotels and their guests to contribute to the fight against hunger."

The hotel's renewed commitment builds on the success of the first year of the campaign to work toward eliminating child hunger in the region. Last year, WFP was able to distribute more than 125,648 school meals in Southeast Asia thanks to the influx of dedicated support.

WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. In Asia alone, WFP assists over 40 million hungry people in 14 countries. In Malaysia, it manages a UN Humanitarian Response Depot which distributes life-saving supplies and food to support humanitarian and emergency response needs in the Asia Pacific region and beyond. WFP is funded entirely by voluntary donations such as those attained through partnerships developed with private entities such as the Marriott & Renaissance Malaysia Business Council.
