Tactical Communications Group Announces Network Emulation Training System (NETS)

New Product Greatly Reduces System Acquisition Cost for Users, While Providing Superb Training Capability

TEWKSBURY, MA--(Marketwire - November 29, 2010) - Tactical Communications Group (TCG), the leading independent supplier of tactical data link (TDL) software solutions for military test, training and operational users worldwide, today announced planned CY2011 Q1 availability of the Network Emulation Training System (NETS). NETS is a new TCG product offering that greatly reduces the significant cost of acquisition upfront costs of procuring a TDL-based training solution, while providing superb training capability to customers. NETS is an offering that brings together TCG's proven Battlefield Operational Support System (BOSS) and ViaSat's essential Amalgamated Remote Management System (ARMS) software and Terminal Operational Environment Simulator (TOES) software to automate the trainer's job of simulating and stimulating realistic Link 16 networks, hardware and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures ("TTPs") at any operational level.

"NETS will enhance TCG's product portfolio and, in partnership with ViaSat's products, creates leadership in next-generation TDL-based training systems," said Marty McDonough, President and CEO, TCG. "NETS provides an inexpensive but very effective training tool for operational TDL users. It will also reduce the cost of TDL training, while providing realistic, high-fidelity, interactive tactical data link network displays, and scenarios for Tactics, Techniques and Procedures development and rehearsal. No other company can provide the combination of simulation, terminal emulation and network configuration that is present in the new NETS product."

NETS is a ground training system that will allow instructors and operators to sit at their respective computer stations and interact with pre-planned or ad hoc scenarios and lesson-plans. The NETS Training System prepares students to monitor and manage large complex Link 16 networks and allows instructors to configure training networks and scenarios for situations that are realistic representations of what their students will encounter in future military environments. The integration of the TDL front-end processor and simulation engine with terminal emulation and network configuration enables NETS to deliver and enhance training capabilities to permit:

  • Scripting (building, modifying, maintaining libraries);

  • Script execution/control for live record/playback, pause, fast forward, resume/resume with changes;

  • Simulation over live networks, pause replay, fidelity (kinematics, sensors, terrain, communication environmentals), and number of simulation objects;

  • Student record-keeping;

  • Debriefing;

  • Qualifications for military specialty codes, MOSs, ratings and designators; and

  • Training curricula for qualification in specialties.

"TCG has created a product that demonstrates the ease of integration for their customers -- at an attractive price point," said Paul Baca, Vice President and General Manager, ViaSat. "TCG has similar values and technology interests as ViaSat, and by using ViaSat products with theirs, it provides a unique synergy for TDL customers. NETS is the only fully integrated training tool available today, and we are thrilled to offer our products to TCG for integration in this tool."

Availability and Pricing

NETS will be shortly available from TCG in CY2011 Q1. Operational units can easily install the NETS software solution using commercial desktop computers and a software license purchased from TCG. Information may be obtained by calling TCG at 978-654-4800.
