Streambox Live(TM) Available Free to Broadcasters Covering Relay to Help Wounded Soldiers

Streambox Inc.'s Donation Facilitates Coverage of First Ever 'Gumpathon'

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - September 13, 2010) -  Streambox® Inc. today announced it will provide free Streambox Live™ service to any broadcaster for coverage of The Gumpathon, a 3,530-mile relay to raise money for organizations that help severely wounded soldiers recover. The run kicked off on Sept. 10 in Manhattan and will conclude on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, in Santa Monica, Calif.

Streambox Live is a many-to-many cloud-based video sharing service that incorporates free encoder software, Web-based management tools, and innovative options for video playout. Video sent to a Streambox Live server can be routed to one or many destinations at one time, including Streambox hardware decoders for baseband or SDI video playout, the Streambox Media Player for viewing on a computer monitor, or the Web via a CDN network.

Relying on Streambox Live, the Gumpathon team will send up-to-the-minute, high-quality video reports using a laptop computer and a Thrane & Thrane™ EXPLORER™ 700 BGAN terminal for Inmarsat™ satellite uplink. Broadcasters that want to use the footage can browse, download, and decode it for broadcast from the cloud-based Streambox service.

Named after fictional hero Forrest Gump, the fundraiser is the brainchild of Damian Todd, a 20-year member of the Royal Marines, who is running along with four other U.K. soldiers and Master Gunnery Sgt. Charles Padilla of the United States Marine Corps. Major news organizations in Europe and the United States are already geared up to carry Gumpathon reports. Streambox's goal in providing free Streambox Live accounts is to expand coverage even further.

"By providing Streambox Live service infrastructure, we enable stations to bring in real-time coverage of the race as it crosses the U.S.A.," said Mark Marchetti, Streambox vice president for federal government sales. "We know viewers throughout the country will be even more engaged with the story because Streambox technology makes it easily available in compelling, live reports. We're glad to have this opportunity to make a contribution to a great cause in support of U.S. and allied troops."

Donations to The Gumpathon will support three charities: Help for Heroes, the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, and the U.S. Marines Semper Fi Fund. More information on The Gumpathon is available at www.thegumpathon.com. More information on Streambox Live is available at www.streambox.com.
