Visual Storyteller Jonathan Harris Featured Speaker at ONA10 Networking Event

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - August 16, 2010) -  The Online News Association, the world's largest membership organization of digital journalists, today announced artist and visual storyteller Jonathan Harris will be the featured speaker during an evening of discussion and drinks at its annual conference in Washington DC.

The 2010 Online News Association Conference and Awards Banquet, Oct. 28-30, is expected to attract more than 800 online journalists from around the world to the Marriott Renaissance for three days of training, panels and workshops on emerging trends and technology, as well as a Career Summit and Job Fair. Last year's event in San Francisco sold out.

Harris, who will address the Friday night networking crowd, floats between Brooklyn, N.Y., the open road and cyberspace, documenting his life with one photo a day. He makes inspiring projects that re-imagine how humans relate to technology and to each other. Combining elements of computer science, anthropology, visual art and storytelling, his projects range from building the world's largest time capsule (with Yahoo!) to documenting an Alaskan Eskimo whale hunt on the Arctic Ocean (with a warm hat). He is the co-creator of We Feel Fine, which continuously measures the emotional temperature of the human world through large-scale blog analysis, and has created other projects about online dating, modern mythology, anonymity, news and language.

After studying computer science at Princeton University, he won a 2005 Fabrica fellowship and three Webby Awards. His work has also been recognized by AIGA, Ars Electronica, the state of Vermont (for which he co-designed the state quarter), Print Magazine (which named him a 2008 New Visual Artist) and The World Economic Forum (which recognized him as a 2009 Young Global Leader).

ONA is the world's largest association of online journalists. Its mission is to inspire innovation and excellence among journalists to better serve the public. The membership includes news writers, producers, designers, editors, bloggers, technologists, photographers and others who produce news for digital delivery systems, as well as academic members and students. ONA also hosts the Online News Association annual conference and administers the Online Journalism Awards.
