Ecotech Institute Names New President Chris Gorrie

As a Longtime Ecotech Institute Faculty Member With Years of In-the-Field Experience, Gorrie Will Propel Ecotech Institute to the Next Level in Renewable Energy Education

DENVER, CO--(Marketwired - Nov 4, 2014) - Ecotech Institute, the first and only college in the U.S. solely focused on renewable energy and sustainability, today announced Chris Gorrie as its new president. Gorrie's responsibilities include guiding the strategic direction of the school; ensuring satisfaction of students, graduates and employers; and making sure all staff at Ecotech Institute meet the high expectations of students and its parent company, Education Corporation of America.

Gorrie has been with the school since 2010, first as an instructor, then program director for the Electrical Engineering Technology Program and most recently as Ecotech Institute's Academic Dean.

Prior to joining Ecotech Institute, Gorrie's interest in renewable energy led him to work at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colo., where he developed raw materials for use in transparent electronics and photovoltaics. It was his passion for teaching that brought him into the classrooms at Ecotech Institute.

"Chris demonstrates a true passion for the education of our students, their success and Ecotech Institute's mission," said Tom Moore, Chief Executive Officer, Education Corporation of America. "His experience and leadership at Ecotech Institute makes him the ideal person to lead the school. Chris will be responsible for continuing the growth of the college and ensuring that we produce the very best graduates in renewable energy education."

Gorrie studied Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis in semiconductor technology, at the University of Southern Maine and did his graduate work at the University of Florida where he was awarded a full Alumni Fellowship.
