DNV KEMA Offers Smart Grid Interop Lab Membership

Exclusive Memberships Available to Utilities and Vendors for Smart Grid Testing

BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - May 8, 2012) - DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability today announced that its KEMA Smart Grid Interop Lab (SGIL) is offering a membership program that enhances how industry participants can economically test products for smart grid integration, compliance, and risk, while collaborating with other members to drive rich interoperability solutions and expand market visibility. Information on DNV KEMA's testing and consulting services will be on display at IEEE PES T&D 2012 in Orlando, Florida, May 7-9, booth #1549.

Open to all utilities and associated technology vendors, the program gives members exclusive access to the SGIL without the costs and effort associated with building or updating their own dedicated labs. SGIL membership meets the technical and business needs of participants, and it fosters mutually beneficial partnerships among the lab members. Membership also encourages thought leadership and collaboration on customer projects for testing and validation.

SGIL membership offers several benefits:

  • Two types of annual memberships to accommodate different needs and investment levels
  • Ability to test and optimize smart grid solutions without large capital and resource investments
  • Access to KEMA technical lab experts and business consultants
  • Access to all test tools housed in the facility
  • Ability to leverage world-renowned test reports and validation
  • Opportunity to participate in multi-member testing projects
  • Ability to showcase smart grid solutions for customers and users
  • Use of a live smart grid environment to provide training and give presentations
  • Connected access to other KEMA lab facilities

Ron Chebra, vice president, DNV KEMA said, "The KEMA SGIL membership program streamlines the administrative process for companies so they can have virtually uninterrupted use of our fully equipped lab. They can use our facilities to replicate most field conditions. Having an independent organization manage this makes good business sense for risk mitigation."

Chebra also noted that DNV KEMA is the first organization in the world to be recognized by the Utility Communications Architecture users group as an independent, third-party (level A) testing lab for IEC 61850 compliance.

KEMA is presently offering two membership levels, gold and silver, each deliniated by a variety of testing and ancilliary service benefits. Membership approval is subject to the participant's ability to meet the minimal requirements for product deployment and support in the lab.
