DANVILLE, CA--(Marketwire - March 16, 2011) - A Bay Area high school celebrates its 100th birthday this weekend as faculty, alumni and politicians gather together to attend San Ramon Valley High School's (SRVHS) 100-Year Gala at the Blackhawk Museum, March 19, 7:00 pm - Midnight. A once in a lifetime opportunity for a seven-day African Safari for four people is just one of over 60 exclusive items that will be auctioned off to support academics, arts and athletics at Contra Costa County's second oldest high school. The Gala will be the first large-scale community event sponsored by the school's foundation, the SRVHS Wolf Foundation.

A Brief History of San Ramon Valley High School
In 1909, a resolution was passed by the Board of Trustees of the Contra Costa Educational Association to build a high school in the quiet town of Danville, Calif., and in August of 1910, the school opened. Initially called San Ramon Valley Union High School, the school included two teachers and approximately 30 students, 12 of which traveled from Walnut Creek by a four horse bus because they did not have a high school of their own. The permanent location of the first school was on the corner of Front Street and Diablo Road, and in 1914, the first graduating class consisted of five women who are credited with choosing the school's identifying colors of yellow and green. The five graduates included Ruth Weinhauer, Ora Bell, Alice Bell, Viola Lynch and Astrid Olsson. In 1916, the school was moved to a different location due to the rapid growth in the area and need for more room. Ten acres were purchased near Danville Boulevard and Love Lane with 10 gold coins and the mission-style building was completed in 1916.

San Ramon Valley High School (SRVHS) was established in 1910 and it is the second oldest high school in Contra Costa County. SRVHS is a National Blue Ribbon school, a four-time California Distinguished School and a fully WASC-accredited public high school. The school is located at 501 Danville Boulevard, Danville, Calif., a Contra Costa County community approximately 35 miles east of San Francisco. The SRVHS Wolf Foundation is a 501c(3) tax-exempt charitable organization affiliated with the San Ramon Valley Education Fund. Formed in January 2009 with the vision of building a community partnership dedicated to the development of student achievement through capital improvements on the 100-year-old campus, the Wolf Foundation is the first of its kind in the San Ramon Valley School District.
